Psalm 139:16-18 “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you.”

God wrote my story long before I ever breathed my first breath. And not just mine, but all of our stories. I have a son who is a writer, so I know a little about the process. How much thought goes into each character. How a timeline unfolds in the mind of the author prior to writing the first words. How each sentence is crafted and then edited and revised multiple times. How it takes effort to make the story come alive to the reader. Each character is important. Each story an integral part of the whole. Now, most novels cover only a brief period of time, days are described in relative detail but months and years of time are jumped over with only a mention of the highlights that happened. But not with God.

“All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” God thought out every detail of your life. He painstakingly crafted each moment. He lovingly contemplated the best possible story for you and for me. He wrote the minute details of our every day lives in His book. He wove them all together, all of our stories, into one masterpiece. Imagine the magnitude of the thought that He put into you and me. No wonder we can’t count them. Then He didn’t stop at writing them down. No. He breathed life into them. He caused us to come alive. We are truly His creation. Each one of us has a part to play. None of us are an accident. Today isn’t by chance. He has a plan for you and for me. He has a reason for today.

We never need fear that God doesn’t care. We don’t ever have to worry that God is distant or not listening. Don’t ever think that you were an accident. If He cared so much to write down the details of your life when you were just a thought in His head, how much more does He care for us as we live and breath and grow and love. God has had you on His mind for eternity! What an amazing God He is!
