Matthew 20:1-6

“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard. About nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. He told them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’ So they went. He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing. About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, ‘Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’”

God is looking to hire workers for His vineyard. He comes back time and time again asking you and I to join in the work being done. He even promises to pay us for our labor. The question is, “Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?”

How often have I been the one standing around doing nothing? How many times does God have to ask before I finally accept His offer and join Him?  Am I the one still standing around when the day is almost gone? Thank God for His persistence, for His longing that all will be saved. He keeps coming back. As long as there are people still standing around, God keeps asking them to join Him.

He doesn’t chastise them. He doesn’t condemn those standing idle. He invites them to come work for Him. He generously bestows on them the same blessings as the first ones hired. Do you see God’s heart for those that are lost and for you and me? He never gives up on us.
