Matthew 16:25 “For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.”

I’m a bit of a prepper. I have solar powered flashlights, solar powered battery packs, and a camp stove that converts heat into electricity to power devices. I have some food supplies that claim to be good for 25 years and my bug out bag is filled with essentials for survival. So how do I reconcile that with today’s verse?

If I look to save my life from hell and destruction by my own means apart from Jesus, I will fail miserably. For it is only by complete surrender to Christ that my life will be spared for all eternity.

If I hold on to my life, with my fists clenched, holding onto the hurts and fears and wrongs done to me, I will end up missing out on this life. Instead, if I give my life over to Jesus, completely, He promises to give me an abundant life.

If I desire this life and the things this world has to offer over the next, I will, in the end, only have these fleeting fancies. On the contrary, if I set my heart and soul to seek the Lord, then I will have life for eternity and fulfillment here on earth as well.

If I put myself and my life above others with a me first mentality, I will leave this life empty. But if I put others first and love on those around me, acting like Jesus, I will receive more than I could ever have dreamed of.
