Matthew 10:39 “Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.”

Whoever finds, through their own knowledge and effort, what they think the meaning of life is will miss what life is really all about. They think they have it all figured out. Wherever we try to find our identity and importance outside of God is destined to leave us empty and lost. God’s ways are so much higher than man’s ways. Man has tried to ascend to God by his own strength for ever but that will always be a futile task. A life lived apart from Christ is a wasted life, a destroyed life, a lost life.

But whoever gives up all control and stops demanding their own way of life, yielding it willingly to Jesus for His use and purposes. That individual will find what life was meant to be. They will truly be living. Jesus came to give us life and life more abundantly. That abundant life cannot be found. It can only be given to you by the author of Life. All we have to do is freely give up the life that we have in exchange. Give Him your life, the author and perfecter of your faith has written a new one for you.

So, what’s it going to be? You in control equals destruction. God in control equals abundant life. Seems like an easy decision when they are stacked next to each other. In reality, it isn’t always so easy. Whenever I am self-focused instead of others-focused. I’m doing it wrong. When I prefer self-care to caring for others, I’ve blown it again. Am I being me centric or God centric? Doing it my way instead of asking for God’s will to be done. Self-help verses helping others. Every time I do these or similar things, I am grasping for control of my life while forfeiting the rich blessings that are mine in Christ. Who’s in control of your life today? Let go and let God!
