John 6:63 “The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.”

The Spirit gives life. He quickens our mortal bodies (Romans 8:11). He brings the Word of God to life for us (John 14:26). He makes us come alive spiritually (1 Corinthians 2:11). Our flesh doesn’t count for anything. There is no advantage gained through our flesh. There is no benefit we receive from it. In fact, all we reap from the flesh is destruction (Galatians 6:8). The two, the Spirit and the flesh, are at war with each other (Galatians 5:16-17). Into that battle, Jesus speaks His words of life.

And what are these words of life that Jesus had just spoken? He had just finished telling them that He was the Bread of Life and that those who partake of Him will have eternal life. The mystery of the Lord’s Supper is “full of the Spirit and life”. These words of Jesus are filled with the Spirit and can only be discerned by the Spirit. Without the Spirit, the words are dead, just as we are dead without the Spirit. The Spirit gives life!

So, as you look at your life today, is there an area of your life that is in need of life? Are you dry and withered, lifeless and empty? Allow Jesus to speak His words of life into the dead parts of your life today. His promises are yes and amen for He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. As you hear His promises for you afresh, remember that Jesus is the Bread of Life and His words are full of the Spirit and life.
