Matthew 9:10 “While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples.”

“While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house,” Let’s just stop right there. Picture that scene. Jesus and His disciples. Matthew and his friends. The conversation flowing. I can’t help but think that Matthew’s house was filled with joy that night. Now, imagine for a moment that instead of Matthew’s house, Jesus was having dinner at your house. What’s going on in your house while Jesus sits at your dinner table? It brings a smile to my face to picture it. The love and warmth of home, the abundant joy of my King, and laughter, lot’s of laughter.

The truth is that Jesus comes to dinner every night at our houses and most of the time we don’t even know He’s there. Does His presence make a difference at your dinner table? What would happen if, tonight at dinner, you took a second and acknowledged His presence there with you? What if you welcomed Him to your table and enjoyed His company around your meal? Would that change anything in your house? Try it out. I get a smile just thinking about it!
