Matthew 8:24 “Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.”
There is something comforting about the fact that Jesus was sleeping while the storm raged on. The storms of our life don’t worry our Lord. When you and I are buffeted by the winds and waves, He is still in control. When everything is against us, He still holds us in His hands. When our ship is sinking and we are panicking, Jesus remains calm, cool, and collected.
Jesus tells us that we will all have trials, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33. We can’t avoid the tough times but we can choose how we respond to them. We can find peace in Christ, knowing that He has overcome the world, or we can, like the disciples, doubt our Lord’s intentions and live in fear of being overwhelmed by our circumstances.
How do you respond to the storms in your life? Imagine for a moment that storm in your life. Instead of seeing it as something trying to drown you, can you see it as a God ordained opportunity for Him to display His power in your life? I don’t know how He is going to get me out of this one, but I wait with expectation to see Him move. There is nothing else that I can do in my strength, now I need your miracle power to change the outcome. This storm is too big for me, can you take care of it Lord? When the storms rage in your life, remember, Jesus is sleeping in your boat. He will never leave you nor forsake you. He’s always in control.
