Matthew 13:44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.”
I believe there is in this verse, the entire story of God’s chosen people. The field is the world. The treasure God’s chosen people, His treasured possession. And the man is Jesus, God with us. God called Abraham to go and become a nation unto God. And God’s people flourished for a time. But when His treasure turned from Him, God hid them in exile and obscurity. He hid his chosen people until the time was right when He could come down from heaven, giving up all His riches to become the servant of all. Then He purchased them back with great joy. For the joy set before Him He endured the cross. He gave all He had. His very life to purchase the whole field, the whole of creation. And He did this all to gain the treasure, you and me, His chosen people, for all eternity.
“Then in His joy went and sold all He had and bought that field.” For a moment, reflect on the joy that Jesus felt over finding you. The divine joy that you give to God daily, even right now. Such joy that Jesus just had to have you for Himself and was willing to do anything to get you. Now, Jesus wants to share His joy with you. “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.” John 15:11. Let His joy fill you today as you bask in the light of being His treasured possession. That’s why you’re His light. That’s why he doesn’t want you to hide. You are His treasure! The one He bought just for Himself. Take it in. Know that you are loved and cherished beyond all understanding.
