Matthew 6:33 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
“Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness.” Before worrying about what you are going to have for breakfast, seek His kingdom. Before you choose between jeans or slacks, seek His righteousness. Seek Him first and seek Him daily. Jesus isn’t saying just take a look around and see if you can find God today. The word translated seek is zeteo in the Greek and means to seek in order to find. There’s a determination in that word. I have made up my mind. The first thing that I am going to do today is find God!
His kingdom is not a place but the authority He has to rule and reign. I am not seeking a place but His presence, His power, His authority over my life. Not just one time but every day. In the same way that I choose daily what I’m going to wear, I am to find Him daily ruling over me. Every time I sit down to eat, I should be asking myself if I’ve found God’s rule and reign in my heart and life today. There are so many times that I say, “I’ll do it later. I don’t have time right now. Maybe when I get a free moment.” Why should the God of heaven and earth wait for me to finish up with whatever trivial thing I’ve found to busy myself with? Why do I put on hold the King of kings and Lord of lords while I prioritize my agenda over His?
“Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Let’s get our priorities straight! If you put Him first, He’ll make things work out. Seek Him instead of seeking things. Seek Him instead of seeking self. Seek Him at all cost with all you have all the time!
