Jonah 2:8 “Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs.”
How much do I give up to hold onto things that don’t satisfy? How much do I leave on the table because I choose to hold onto things that are worthless? How much love and grace that God had for me have I not received because I’ve continued to cling to worthless idols?
The things of the world are often like a weight that we cling to. We cling to them for security. We cling to them for comfort. We hold tight and don’t let go because someone told us that we needed that to be successful or whole. All the while, this weight is pulling us down into the darkness. We struggle to get close to God but feel the constant pull of the world. And yet we continue to cling to that which is empty and lifeless.
God has so much to give you but it is impossible to hold onto the world and receive what He has for you. His love for you is unfailing, never ending, beyond what you can imagine. Just let go of anything else that you may be holding onto and take His hand, receive His gifts, allow Him to comfort you, allow Him to be your security. feel His love and embrace.
What worthless idol are you holding onto that you need to let go of today? Here are some words to help you from “The Well” by Casting Crows.
And all who thirst will thirst no more,
And all who search will find what their souls long for,
The world will try, but it can never fill,
So leave it all behind, and come to the well
