Matthew 3:2 “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

This was John the Baptist’s message. “Repent!” Metanoeo in the Greek. It means to change your mind, to change your way of thinking. As a military term, it means about face, to turn 180 degrees and march the other direction. John’s reason for preaching this message was because the kingdom of heaven is near, it is here at hand. Because the kingdom of heaven has come here to earth, the people were to repent.

Are you experiencing the kingdom of heaven here on earth? If you don’t feel God’s presence in your life, perhaps you need to change the way you are thinking about something? Maybe it’s time for you and I to repent? Is there something that has a hold on your way of thinking today, something clouding your thoughts, something pulling you in the wrong direction? It’s time to turn away from that way of thinking. If it is keeping you from experiencing all that God has for you here and now, then let go of it. Kick that stinking thinking to the curb!

There is nothing sweeter than the nearness of God. But my sin, my stubbornness, my pride, all keep me from that nearness at times. It’s at those times, that I need to be reminded of the message of repentance. It’s not just a one time act. For me, it’s a daily choice to walk away from the worldly things that surround me and walk towards God. It’s a constant decision to let go of thoughts that are contrary to God’s Word. Right now, I choose you Lord, I choose your ways, I choose your thoughts. I need your grace and mercy. I need your nearness in my life. Come close Lord Jesus. Come now!
