John 1:5 “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.”
Jesus is so awesome! He is the light of the world. His light can never be overcome or extinguished. His life gives life to all of creation. His light is so bright that in heaven there are no shadows. And this same light dwells within each one of us. How amazing is that!
Jesus told us that, “You are the light of the world.” Matthew 5:14. What are you doing with your light? He goes on to tell us in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” When you let your light shine, it points others to God.
How do you let your light shine? What does the light within you look like when it illuminates the world around you? We each have a unique way of shining. Just like each star in heaven is unique, we each have our own color, our own shimmer, our own glow. One of the cool things about light is that it is both a wave and a particle. Light behaves like a wave when it propagates and like a particle when it is emitted or absorbed. It has a dual nature. Kind of like us. We are both physical and spiritual. We exist in this temporal world yet eternity dwells within us.
You are light. A single candle can be seen for 1.6 miles. The surface area of the earth is 196.9 million square miles. That means that is would take 24.5 million candles to illuminate the whole world. There are an estimated 2.3 billion Christians in the world. Why is there so much darkness? Let your light so shine before men … Let’s light up this world for Jesus!
