Proverbs 20:9 Who can say, “I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin”?

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:23. How true it is. We have all sinned. No one can say, “I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin.” I have to admit that sometimes I compare myself and my sins to others and say to myself, “I’m not as bad as that person.” Lord have mercy! There are no degrees of sin. I heard it once said that if you break any link in the chain you fall just the same. And we’ve all broken one of God’s laws. We have all sinned in thought, word, and deed.

Thank God there is one that can claim to have a pure heart and to be without sin. Thank you Jesus! Jesus kept his heart pure. When He was tempted by the devil in the wilderness, He kept His heart pure. Whether He was surrounded by the wealthy or the poor, He kept His heart pure. Whether He was teaching the multitudes or alone in the night, He kept His heart pure. Thank you Jesus! Thanks for doing what I couldn’t and can’t do.

It’s good to be honest about our sin. The devil wants you to hide it and be suffocated by the guilt and shame of your sin. God wants you to admit it and be set free from the weight of carrying it. Though I strive daily to live a life free of sin, I fail. I fall short. But that’s not an excuse to not try. I can’t wait for the day when we will no longer be shadowed by that lion just waiting for us to mess up. One day, we will be completely free from his accusations and lies. The accuser, the tempter, will no longer be able to lead us astray and we will be able to say, “I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin.”
