Proverbs 20:6 “Many claim to have unfailing love, but a faithful person who can find?”
Talk is cheap! Words come easy. But someone that does what they say, that is hard to find. It’s easy to say the right thing. I’ve made a living off of telling others what wanted to hear. I was voted most romantic in high school. But, have I been faithful? Nope. I have let people down time and time again. And it never feels good. So why do I do it?
I guess my need to be liked in the moment outweighs my conscious of doing what is right. Or maybe I am too embarrassed to say what I am really feeling so I say what someone wants to hear. Or perhaps I really do believe it in the moment but my heart and mind change over time. I’m sure it is a combination of all these things. Whatever it is, it is not the character that God wants from us.
Psalm 15 is a beautiful list of the character traits that God wants us to live by.
Who may worship in your sanctuary, LORD? Who may enter your presence on your holy hill? Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right, speaking the truth from sincere hearts. Those who refuse to gossip or harm their neighbors or speak evil of their friends. Those who despise flagrant sinners, and honor the faithful followers of the LORD, and keep their promises even when it hurts. Those who lend money without charging interest, and who cannot be bribed to lie about the innocent. Such people will stand firm forever.
“Speaking the truth from sincere hearts.” “And keep their promises even when it hurts.” Those are the two that I need to hold onto. What about you? Any of these verses stand out to you today?
