Ephesians 2:13 “But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.”

When I became a Christina in graduate school, I first cut my teeth on the King James Version of scripture. It will always be dear to my heart. One of my favorite words from the King James is the word nigh. From the Hebrew eggys meaning near or at hand. The Jews used it to describe one having access to God. It’s root means to squeeze.

Now, I know that I was once far away from God. I was His enemy. I also know that I still have a tendency to wander away. I know what it feels like when my heart starts to grow hard towards Him, when I feel distant and not connected, alone.

I am so thankful for the precious blood of Christ that has given me access to the Father. By His blood, I am brought near to God, past the outer courts, into the Holy of Holies, right into His very presence. No matter how far away I wander, I can’t go farther than His blood. The nearness and closeness that I long for is always right at hand, waiting for me to dive in.

As it says in James 4:8 “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” So come close to the God that is always nigh.
