Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

There are two key words in this verse, fill and trust. One is what God does, the other what we do. God does the filling. God will fill you with all joy and peace. That’s His part of this equation. When God fills us, He doesn’t go half-way. He doesn’t just give us a taste or just enough to get by. We serve an abundant God and when He fills us, He fills us to overflowing. He is our source of joy and peace. If you seek joy and peace elsewhere, you will never be satisfied, you will never be filled up.

Our part of the equation is to trust Him. As you trust in Him. That phrase captures our belief in God in action. Trust is active. Trust is not a one time thing but a daily practice. Trusting God for our daily bread. As we trust, God fills us. He doesn’t fill us prior to our trusting, then what would we need to trust Him for. We trust, He fills. What do you need to trust God for today?

God loves to give us His joy and peace but God doesn’t fill us up just for our benefit. As He pours into our hearts His joy and peace, He expects that we will allow those gifts to overflow to those around us bringing them hope. So, as you trust in God daily, let Him fill you, expect Him to fill you, with joy and peace. Then share your hope with those around you thus multiplying the gift God is giving to you.
