Psalm 3:3 “But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.”
I have spent most of my life building walls around my heart in an attempt to protect it from being hurt. That’s my way of controlling the world around me. I feel safe when I am in control. But what I’ve created is a kingdom of one. Inside my walls I am safe and alone. That’s not God’s plan for me. It’s not good for man to be alone.
God promises to be a shield around me. He is my protector. When I trust in His protection then I don’t need to build any walls. I can tear them down. I can lift up my head and not be afraid. I can hold my head high and not worry about what others might think or say of do. When God’s my shield, whom shall I fear?
Have you built up walls around your heart which you hide behind? Are you afraid of being hurt yet again? Do you keep your head down, afraid to be noticed, to stand out? Let the Lord be your shield today. Trust in His ability and willingness to protect you from all that you are afraid of. Tear down the walls that hide who God created you to be. Lift your head up and stand tall with your Protector surrounding you. He is our shield and glory and the lifter of our heads.
