Psalm 106:15 “And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.”

When God’s people cry out to Him, He answers them. I know that I, oftentimes, cry out for things that aren’t the best for me. I want my way, not God’s way. Sometimes God gives me what I ask for even though it is not what His best for me is. And the result is always the same. It never satisfies. When we settle for what is less than God’s best for us, it never satisfies. It is a “leanness in my soul”, a wasting away from the inside out.

Now, the sad part is that only three verses earlier, the people of Israel were praising God’s name for what He had done for them, “Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.” Psalm 106:12. I am so like the children of Israel. I will go from the heights of praising God to wanting my way in an instant. Only to be shipwrecked again when it doesn’t end up being what I thought it would be. Even so, He is so gentle with me. Restoring me to fellowship with Him because of His goodness and unending love for me.

Is there an area in your life right now where you have been trying to have it your way? Is there some answer to prayer that you need to let go of needing to look a certain way? Go to Him now and remember how Psalm 106 starts, “Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Psalm 106:1. He is good. His path for your life is good. His ways are higher than our ways. And His love endures forever.
