Psalm 34:5 “Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.”

Shame makes me hide my face. Shame is my deepest wound. At my core I just want to be accepted and loved for who I am. But my shame tells me, each time I make a mistake, that I am unworthy of love and will never be good enough. My flaws, and imperfections, my sins, and mistakes are all I see. So I hide. I hide not only my mistakes, I hide my strengths as well. I hide my self, who God created me to be.

Have you ever felt like hiding? Like the only thing that people can see is what you’ve done wrong? Are there times that you cover up because you just know that no one is going to really like you?

This verse has the answer for us. All we have to do is look to God. Not look at Him, but look to Him. Look to Him for our approval. Look to Him for our worth. Unless we find our source of acceptance in Him, we will never be free from the grip of shame. It is not about what we do. It is about what He’s done for us. It is not about who we are, but about who He is. He gave us worth when He created us in His image. He proved to us our worth by dying on the cross. He shows us our worth by choosing us to live with Him for eternity.

Is there some area of your life today that you have been looking to someone other than God for your acceptance? Can you exchange that for God’s approval today? Let His loving voice speak to your need today. And remember, “Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.”
