Psalm 34:4 “I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.”

When was the last time you really sought the Lord for something? I mean really pressed in to God to get an answer. I feel like it has been a while for me. Too long. What keeps me from really going to God with every fiber of my being more regularly? All too often for me it comes down to not really caring about the outcome. God has blessed me so much that I get passive about much of what is going on around me on a daily basis. What about you? What keeps you from really pressing in to hear God’s voice? Is it pride? I can do this. Or doubt? God doesn’t answer my prayers. Maybe shame? I’ve blown it too badly. Or fear? What if I don’t like what He tells me? Or perhaps, like me, it’s an apathy. We’ve been lulled to sleep by His blessings.

I would venture to guess that many of us have sought the Lord diligently these past couple weeks. Maybe for the first time in a while. When the world around us is out of control, we tend to hold tight to what we know. “I sought the Lord and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.” Have you heard God’s answer for you recently? Has He answered the cry of your heart? What’s He saying in the midst of social distancing and panic buying? Can you hear His voice or is the volume too loud around you? Is there something drowning out His voice? Seek Him with the intention of finding Him, not an answer. Don’t seek the answer, seek Him. When we find Him, we find our answer.

My fears are very real in these days. Tangible. All around me. I do have fears. But I serve a God that is greater than my fears. He is more powerful than anything that I may face. When I seek His face, when I am captivated by His presence, when I am emptied of self and overflowing with Him, then all my fears will fade. All, not some. All fear must flee in the light of His perfect love. For perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18). He will truly deliver you from all your fears. All it takes is seeking Him. So, go and seek the Lord with all your heart.

“And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13
