Psalm 56:3 “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”

I know fear. It’s one of my go to emotions. Fear has kept me from being who God created me to be at times. Fear causes me to shut down and hide. Fear encourages me to play small, be quiet, and cover up His light within me. Have you ever experienced fear? What does fear cause you to do?

There are times that I am going to be afraid. I have a choice though, what to do with that fear. I can let that fear paralyze me or I can let it be a catalyst to the courage that God has for me. You see, courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is stepping through my fears and following God even when I am afraid. It all hinges on where I go with my fear.

If I hold onto my fears I will remain in their grip. But if I go to God with my fears then He can fill me with courage instead. If my immediate response to fear is to question God then fear has won. But if my first thought when I am afraid is to trust in God, then it no longer can control me. Where do you turn with your fears?

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” It looks so simple. Sometimes it is so hard. When there is confusion all around, I put my trust in you. When everyone else is panicking, I put my trust in you. When I can’t see a way out, I put my trust in you. When I am not enough, I put my trust in you.

No matter what, I put my trust in you!
