Exodus 3:6 Then he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
“I am the God of your fathers, but am I your God also Moses? I did miracles for them, will you trust me to do miracles for you?” I wonder when God ceased to be only the God of Moses’ father and became his God as well? Maybe you can relate. Has God just been the God of your parents or grandparents? He’s a God that has done miracles for others but he’s never done anything in my life that would cause me to believe. Think about that for a second. Is there any part of that statement that you are holding onto? Is there any part of you that you are holding back? Is God really your God?
God was inviting Moses into the same close, purposeful relationship that the patriarchs of the faith had. “As I was with them, so I will be with you, Moses.” Today, God is inviting you to add your name to that list as well. Imagine God identifying Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and __________ (add your name to the list). Just think about the fact that the God of the universe loves you so much that he wants to be identified with you. “I’m his God”, he says. “She’s mine”, he says. The invitation is set before you. Will He only be the God of your fathers or will He be your God?
