Exodus 3:5 “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
A Jewish scholar was asked what taking off your sandals would have meant to an Old Testament Hebrew man. His answer was the Garden of Eden. God was inviting Moses back to the Garden, back into close, intimate relationship with Him. God was saying, in essence, “Moses, come walk with me in the cool of the day once again. Lay down what keeps you from intimacy with me and make your heart available to me once again.”
Wow! God is so amazing! And, do you know that He is saying the same thing to us today. “Come back to me with all your heart. Whatever is keeping you from a close, heartfelt, relationship with Me, lay it down, take it off, get rid of it.” Can you hear Him speaking to you today?
Our God is a consuming fire and wants to burn in you with an unquenchable fire. He wants you to abide in Him and wants you to allow Him to abide with you. There’s a closeness with God that transcends all human understanding. It’s that peace that surpasses all understanding, that love that endures forever, that mystery of the oneness of marriage, all wrapped up together.
So, God is calling out to you today, “Take off your sandals, and join me in the Garden.”
