John 21:12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.”
This verse reminds me of another in Revelation 3:20. “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Both of these passages speak volumes about God’s heart for His children. What an intimate, full, loving relationship our God desires to have with us. He’s not a God that wants us to serve Him, though He deserves it. He’s not a God that is too high and lofty to spend time with lowly people, though He truly is too amazing to even approach. No, our God wants to share a meal with us. He wants to gather around a table with His friends and share life, swap stories, tell jokes, and enjoy each other’s presence.
Can you just sit in that realization for a while. Let it sink in. What would that meal look like for you? Can you picture it? Take it all in. The tastes. The smells. The conversation. The laughter. How wonderful it would be to experience that meal!
The truth is that Jesus invites us to dine with Him daily. Every meal can be spending time around the table with Jesus. How different my meals would be if I looked at them in that way. How about you? What would be different in your mealtime if you welcomed Jesus to the table? Let’s try it and see what impact it has on our conversation, our attitude, our joy.
