Proverbs 18:24 “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

God did not design us to go it alone. “It is not good for man to be alone.” Gen. 2:18. We were created for friendship, relationship, and community. Satan wants nothing more than for us to be alone. We’re easy pickens when we try to do it all by ourselves.

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” Eccl 4:9-12.

My pride has often kept me from reaching out to others. I can take care of this myself. I don’t need help. I moved my entire household from California to Colorado and from Colorado to Tennessee and from Tennessee back to Colorado, all by myself. I wonder how many things I broke or damaged because I was too prideful to ask for help? I wonder how many scrapes and cuts and bruises I endured because I could do it on my own? I think back on just how stupid my pride has made me at times. I slept on the floor in my office for four months because I wouldn’t reach out for help.

What keeps you from community?

God created us to live in relationship. After all, we are made in His image and our God is three in one. God dwells in community at all times. What an example for us! And then God calls us into that community and calls us His friends. He will never leave us nor forsake us because He is all about relationships. How awesome is that!
