John 15:16 “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”

Deep down, my greatest needs has always been to be accepted and affirmed just for who I am. To fill this need, I have worked hard to be everything to everybody to try and gain their acceptance. I have lived my life to be chosen by others. What a chasing after the wind it has been. Wearing myself out so that people will like me.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t stop with people. I have lived for God in the same way. Trying so hard to be accepted by God. Striving for that affirmation that I so desperately need. I only feel good when I have accomplished much for God.

I just need to drink deep from this verse. God chose me! Before I accomplished anything, God chose me! On my worst days, God chose me! When I’m distant and idle and avoiding what God wants me to do, God chose me! Why? Because He loves me.

“The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession. The LORD did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was because the LORD loved you” Deut. 7:6-8

God doesn’t choose us because we are more than someone else. It’s not because we are better, stronger, smarter, prettier, nicer, or friendlier. You can fill that in with whatever you have been striving to accomplish or attain in this life. God doesn’t choose us based on anything we do or deserve. He chooses us because He loves us.

Maybe you need to hear that afresh today. God chose you because He loves you. No matter what!
