Proverbs 17:22 “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”

It has been said that laughter is the best medicine. This verse is in agreement with that. A cheerful heart, a heart full of joy and gladness is good medicine, it’s a cure for what ails you! This is true within our own heart as well as what we bring to others. We can be medicine to ourselves and medicine to others by being cheerful.

On the flip side, a crushed, broken and wounded spirit, mind, and disposition dries up and withers our very bones, our very strength. When I focus on my brokeness, it saps my strength. I feel week. When all I talk about is how wounded I am, it dries up other people as well. I take life instead of give it.

So, where do you find yourself today? Are you a cure for those around you, full of gladness and cheerful? Or do you sap their strength with your gloominess and downcast spirit? Or perhaps there is someone in your life that is drying up your bones? Can you counteract that influence by bringing some joy into their life today?

Each day I have a choice. I can be a cure or a curse. If something is weighing you down today, cast your cares on the Lord and lighten up. Choose to be a cure for someone in need of some joy. I choose joy and gladness today.
