Proverbs 17:13 “Evil will never leave the house of one who pays back evil for good.”

The world thinks being evil is cool. It’s good to be bad. It’s always been that way. It’s not popular to be good. Good guys finish last is what the world tells us. It’s hard not to fall into the trap of the ways of this world when we surround ourselves with it. If I allow my primary influence to be these voices then that is what will come out in my life.

But the Bible has a different message for us. If I repay evil for good, evil will be be all I know. As Christians, we are to overcome evil with good. We are to be loving towards our enemies. We are to love our neighbors and love our fellow Christians as brothers and sisters. The Bible tells us to be kind and tenderhearted towards one another and lift each other up. What a contrast to the messages the world is telling us.

  • When you are tempted to fall into the pattern of this world, what are you seeking?
  • Those times that you have acted in mean and evil ways towards another, how did it make you feel?
    • At that moment?
    • Afterwards?
  • When do you hear the voice of God the loudest reminding you to overcome evil with good?
  • How does it feel to be kind and loving even towards your enemies?
    • At that moment?
    • Afterwards?

So, what voice are you going to listen to today?
