Proverbs 15:8 “The LORD detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases him.”

What is the sacrifice of the wicked? It is meaningless. What would prompt the wicked to make a sacrifice to God? Trying to impress someone. Trying to feel better about themselves. The sacrifice of the wicked it like a bribe. Trying to buy forgiveness as an insurance policy. It’s not the size of the offering but the depth of the sacrifice that matters to God and the wicked aren’t willing to sacrifice for God.

But even the prayer of the upright is pleasing. Even the littlest they can offer up from their humble hearts fills the coffers of heaven. “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and contrite heart, oh God, thou wilt not despise.” Psalm 51:17. The wicked can never bring that sacrifice to God. Unless the Holy Spirit takes up residence there, the heart of the wicked will remain hard.

Your honest prayers are pleasing to God. Do you know that? More than any sacrifice that you can bring, your broken heart and tears of supplication are near and dear to the Almighty. He saves each tear. He hears each cry. His ear is attentive to your softest whisper. So, bring your sacrifice on bended knee, with a humble heart, before the Lord of all and feel His embrace, His smile over you today.
