Proverbs 14:19 “Evildoers will bow down in the presence of the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.”
The power of doing good is so underestimated in the world we live in. Everyone is scrambling to get ahead, to be richer, prettier, stronger, to be more popular, to have more friends on Facebook, to have the best job, the best wife, the fastest car. Even in the church we’re striving to serve the most, give the most, preach better, teach better, lead more, help more.
You’ll notice that in Proverbs 14:16 there is no best, most, or greatest. We’re called to be good. To be good, to do good, to think good, to live good. And when you do good, you feel good. Being good changes lives and changes the world. This world is full of evildoers. Romans 12:21 encourages us to “not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” The battle is raging around us every day, good verses evil. “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve” Joshua 24:15.
It is so easy to get caught up with the commotion of the world and lose sight of the importance of just doing good to others. It is so easy to think that I’m powerless to change the way things are. But the truth is that evil will bow down to good so keep doing good. “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Gal. 6:9.
