Proverbs 14:16 “The wise are cautious and avoid danger; fools plunge ahead with reckless confidence.”
This proverb reminds me of America’s Funniest Home Videos. You know that show where people send in videos of the crazy things they catch people doing, many of which revolve around “fools plunging ahead with reckless confidence.” They always end up crashing in the end.
Where do you find yourself today? Are you wise and cautious, avoiding danger, shunning evil, fearing the Lord? Or would you say you are closer to the fool who heads off with reckless abandon, careless and self-confident?
I think that this proverb can be flipped upside down and be just as true.
Proverbs 14:16 (Inverted) “Fools are so cautious that they avoid going out on a limb for God; the wise plunge ahead with reckless confidence in a God who is faithful.”
I guess it depends on where your focus is. If your focus is on yourself and your own abilities or on this world and what it provides for you, it’s wise to be cautious and avoid danger, to be safe and fear God. But if your focus in on a God who can do all things, who loves you and is for you and has a purpose for your every breath, then it is wise to go all out, non-stop, holding nothing back, trusting wholeheartedly with reckless abandon for God will never let you down.
So, where do you find yourself today? Trusting in self or trusting in God? It makes all the difference!
