9 The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.

I love having plenty of light. I have LED flood lights and light bar on my truck and when I light those up, the whole road is illuminated. It’s a great advantage being able to see what’s out there that needs to be navigated around. What I’ve noticed though is that if I don’t keep my lights clean, they get layers of muck on them and their effectiveness drops severely. It doesn’t matter how bright those lights are, if they are covered up with the filth of this world, they can’t accomplish what they were made for.

It is no different with me. The Light of Christ has been placed within you and me. That light shines brighter than any star in our galaxy. It illuminates the world around us so that we can see clearly right from wrong. With the Light of Christ, we can navigate the perils of this world and avoid the traps that surround us daily. But if I let the filth of this world cover over that light, if I am muddied by sin, or cover up that light so it doesn’t shine bright, then it gets hard to see what decisions I should make. I can’t find God’s path for me and I become ineffective, unable to accomplish what I was made for.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Mt. 5:16.

Unlike the wicked, our light can never be snuffed out. No matter how dim it gets, it can not be overcome. “Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” 1Jn. 4:4. All we have to do is turn our face towards Jesus, and like Moses, we will radiate His light once again.
