“holy and pleasing to God” – Our offering, our sacrifice, is to be holy and pleasing to God. Our sacrificial offering is to be holy. You see, the aroma of a holy sacrifice is pleasing to God but the aroma of a mere sacrifice just smells like death. Holy, hagios in the Greek, meaning physically pure, morally blameless, and ceremonially consecrated. Well, I’m none of those things so how can my sacrifice ever be holy? By this definition, none of us could ever be a pleasing aroma to God. Only God is hagios. Only God is Holy! But God makes a way where there seems to be no way. “Objects or places, on account of some connection with God, possess a certain distinction and claim to holiness.” “An object or place is holy if it is set apart for God, to be, as it were, exclusively His.” Because of our connection with God through Jesus Christ we are made hagios. When we set apart ourselves to be exclusively His, we are made hagios. We are made holy!
