Isaac was a living sacrifice. In Genesis 22:2, God tells Abraham to “Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering”. But God made a way where there seemed to be no way. Genesis 22:13 “Abraham looked up and there in a thicket be saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.” Abraham believed that “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering”. A living sacrifice is being willing to lay it all down for the sake of our King and believing that He will make a way no matter what.
Jesus is our living sacrifice. He was willing to lay it all down for the Father’s plan and purposes to be fulfilled. And He believed that the Father would make a way where there seemed to be no way.
You and I are living sacrifices. “For the wages of sin is death”, “We were dead in our transgressions”, “There is none righteous. No, not one.” We were as good as dead. But God himself provided the Lamb. “While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Are you all in for Jesus?
Have any of you ever played baseball? There is the concept of a sacrifice in baseball. “A sacrifice bunt (also called a sacrifice hit) is a batter’s act of deliberately bunting the ball, before there are two outs, in a manner that allows a runner on base to advance to another base.” The batter does this to advance another’s position on the bases. Now, imagine if you never got out when you purposed to sacrifice bunt. That is what it’s like when we give our all for Jesus. If we purpose to give our all in sacrifice for His body, they will advance and God will make a way for us as well. Amazing!
