3 No one can be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted.

The NLT translates the first half of this verse, “Wickedness never brings stability” How true is that? Sin never makes me feel more at ease and grounded. It never causes me to sleep more peacefully. It has never once helped those around me feel more safe and calm. Wickedness, whether it is mine or another’s, brings destruction and disorder, fear and uncertainty, insecurity and uneasiness.

When I choose to sin, that’s what I bring forth. That’s the fruit in my life and those that are closest to me get the full brunt of it! Why would I ever want to sin knowing this? Yet, I continue to sin daily. “Oh wretched man that I am!” Rom 7:24.

“But the righteous cannot be uprooted.” When I follow God’s will for my life, it brings stability, “like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season” Ps 1:3, firmly rooted, secure, steadfast, immovable. Righteousness provides strength and security for all those around. That person can be counted on.

What sort of life do you want to lead? The shaky ground of wickedness or the sure foundation of the righteous? What sort of life do you want for your family, your children, your friends? Make the choices today to live for God and His righteousness and you will be a blessing to all those around you.
