I have two sons and it is amazing how different siblings can be. One always reads the directions. The other never does. The first, wants and expects things to behave as they are described in the directions. The second, wants nothing to be expected and things to take on whatever use he wants them have. The first gets what he expects far more often than the second.
As a follower of Christ, my earthly journey should continue to grow brighter as I continue to walk closer and closer to my Lord. The natural result of a righteous life, walking according God’s plans, is that life works better. It’s not always perfect and you can’t tie every good to a righteous act and every evil to a specific sin but in general, when you follow the directions, things just work as expected.
That is what these verses are saying. If we follow God’s directions for us spelled out in His Word, things should work accordingly. “The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.” Prov. 4:18. In the same way, if we follow our own way, we can’t expect to have life work like God intended it to. For example, God’s Word says that if I hang around angry, mean people that I need to be careful that I don’t become angry and mean also. Now, if I expect that hanging around these people is going to make me happy and make me friendlier, and build my faith, I think I will be disappointed when the outcome is different.
God’s Word is unchanging. It still means the same thing it did when God breathed it into the prophets of old. His principles are right and just. His ways are pure and good. Just read Psalm 119 sometime.
Is there an area of your life needs to be lined up with the Word of God? Maybe something is just not going as you expected it to. Could it be that you are expecting something other than what the owner’s guide describes is supposed to happen?
Life just works better when we follow the directions!
