The wicked love their wickedness. And because they love being wicked, they don’t want to stop being wicked. In fact, there is nothing inside them that can stop being wicked. “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Gen. 6:5. Their fear then, what they dread, is punishment for their sins. When they view God, they can only see a righteous judge and fearful doom.
The righteous, on the other hand, desire what is good and pleasing. They desire to do the will of the Father, to do good works that will bear fruit, to encourage one another. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Mat. 5:6. The righteous delight in God. They crave His love and attention and it will not be denied them.
So, what the wicked dread, punishment and condemnation, will come upon them if they do not repent and believe in the Lord Jesus. And what the righteous long for, the presence and love of the Father, will be given to them both now and in eternity through the gift of Jesus Christ.
John 3:16-21 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”
So, where do you find yourself today? Loving darkness or living in the light?
