“This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” Deut. 30:19. It is so easy to see the choice to make when they are laid next to each other in plain sight. Why then do I make so many wrong decisions? It’s probably because the enemy lies and twists and does whatever he can to deceive us into thinking that what is good is bad and what is bad is good. So, how can we walk this decision out in our daily lives?
One way is through prayer. “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,” Phil. 1:9-10. Paul prays that they will be able to discern what is best. As we pray, we allow God to lead us and guide us throughout the day. The more we ask Him for help in making our decisions, the more we will experience life.
Another way is by staying connected to the Word of God. “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Heb. 4:12. The Word of God judges our thoughts and attitudes making sure they are on the path of life. The Word of God is a mirror that shows us the truth if we gaze intently upon it.
I don’t know about you, but I want more life and less death around me. In what areas of your life are you experiencing God’s abundant life? In what areas of your life do you feel that death is winning out? What can you do to change this?
