9 Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.

I have walked on both sides of this street in my life. I have been deceitful only to have my lies exposed and I have been open and honest in difficult situations and known the peace of God at those times. I can tell you, the peace and security of being in integrity is much better! When I lie, I am constantly afraid of being found out. I backed into a car once and didn’t leave a note or report it. Years later, I still fear that somehow I will be caught. It is no fun living in the shadow of lack of integrity. Contrast that with times that I have done other shameful things and been honest about it. With honesty comes freedom, forgiveness, and peace. I slid into a car in a parking lot years ago. I immediately found out whose car it was and apologized and took care of the damage. The only thing that I have taken away from that incident is to drive more safely on ice. No shame! No guilt! No fear!

If you were to rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being low and 10 being high, on how much integrity you have, where would you fall? Where would your spouse put you? How about God? Where would God put you?

Integrity is so important. In a world of broken promises, we are to stand out as Christians. We are to keep our promises even when it hurts (Ps. 15:4). It is important to God as well, “I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity.” 1Chron. 29:17. Integrity guards us from evil, “May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope, LORD, is in you.” Ps. 25:21.

It is never too late to start doing what is right today! Be a person of integrity and you will know the security and assurance that it brings.
