13 To fear the LORD is to hate evil

Jim Cymbola once said, “You have to be for what God is for and against what God is against”. It doesn’t work to try to live like a Christian and to live like the world. The two aren’t to coexist. Just like light dispels the darkness, we are to be all one and not the other. Be either hot or cold but not lukewarm.

Do you hate evil? I know that there have been times in my life that I have struggled with this. I’ve wanted to be crazy for Jesus but also just crazy. I’ll show the world that Christians can be extreme just like the world is. Not the right attitude!

We are not to use the styles and tactics of the world to show the world anything. We are to be different from the world. So different that we stand out like black and white, dark and light, good and evil. To do this, we have to hate evil. We are to hate even the mention of evil. Let it not even be mentioned in regard to your behavior. There isn’t to be any doubt about your intentions.

There is a continuum between passionate for God and passionate for evil. We all lie someplace on that line. Where do you find yourself today? Are you passionate for God and hating evil? Or are you more in the middle of the line not wanting to rock the boat? Or perhaps you’re trying to convince yourself that it’s not that bad, it’s not really a sin, it’s definitely not evil. Christ dies for my sins. Everything that I have done to nail him there is evil!

To fear the Lord is to hate evil.
