7 I saw among the simple, I noticed among the young men, a youth who had no sense. 8 He was going down the street near her corner, walking along in the direction of her house 9 at twilight, as the day was fading, as the dark of night set in.

This young guy had no sense. He was playing with fire and was about to get burned. He was not avoiding temptation but was walking right into the trap. Maybe he was thinking, “I’m strong enough to handle this. Lust won’t get the best of me this time. There’s nothing wrong with just looking. I can walk down the magazine isle and not look. It’s just some swimsuit pictures. There’s nothing wrong with being nice to her. I’m just being friendly.” Recognize any of those rationalizations?

He walked down her street, near her corner, in the direction of her house, at twilight! Makes it hard to resist when you surround yourself with temptation. In what ways do you make yourself vulnerable to temptation? Is there an area of your life that you are flirting with sin? Just on the outskirts of it? Maybe, in some way, hoping the door will open?

If so, run! Run in the opposite direction. It’s not worth it! We, like Moses, are to “Choose rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season” Heb. 11:25. God’s ways are better. He has better for you. Resist! Stand fast! Be strong! Now, I can’t do it in my strength. When I try to rely on my own strength to stand up against temptation, I fail miserably. Oh, I might last a while. But in the end I always fall.

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” 1 Cor. 10:13. Only God can give you the┬ádynamai, the staying power, the strength to stand up. So, ask Him for it daily!
