20 My son, keep your father’s command and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. 21 Bind them always on your heart; fasten them around your neck. 22 When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you.

What you put in the tank matters. Have you ever tried to run an engine with old gas? It sputters and smokes and tries to get going but just doesn’t run like it was meant to. Well, it is the same with us. If I expose myself to junk and corruption and the filth of this world, then I’m going to sputter and struggle and not accomplish what I was meant to do. But if I fill up my tank with the Word of God and surround myself with His commands, then I will run and not grow weary, I will walk and not faint.

The Word of God will guide you, watch over you, and speak to you. The Holy Spirit within you will take the Word of God and use it to help you throughout the day as you make decisions and interact with the world around you. Let God be your guide. The Word of God will watch over you even while you are sleeping. Meaning the decisions that you make during the day won’t be keeping you up all night because they were made in the council of God’s Word. And they will speak to you throughout the day. I don’t know how many times I’ve had one of the passages from my morning devotions be the exact scripture for me or someone I come in contact with that day. It happens all the time.

So, are you going to run on old gas today or put some high octane new gas in your tank? Run like you were meant to run and fill up with His Word!
