27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.
How many times do I hold back and not give to those in need around me? Everyday I fail to do the good that I know that I should do in some way. Sometimes it is verbal praise or affirmation that I hold back. Sometimes it is not being hospitable to someone in need. Often times I just ignore those around me because I don’t have time to meet their needs.
Sounds like a mess doesn’t it? That’s my life when I’m focused on me. When all I see are my needs and my schedule. As a Christian, our life is to look different than that. We are to be other’s focused. We are to give extra, go extra, love extra. Jesus’ words in Mt. 5:42 echo this, “Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.”
In this world where selfishness and hate seem to increase daily, we are to stand out like the odd balls. We’re different because Jesus lives in us and He is different. We are all about love. If we’re not, then we are not doing the Father’s business. What keeps you from lending a helping hand to those in need? When do you find it difficult to give to around you?
Lord, please help us to give freely and generously to those you point out to us each day.
