13 Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, 14 for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. 15 She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. 16 Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. 17 Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. 18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed.

Solomon, when given the chance to ask for anything that he wanted, asked God for wisdom and discernment to lead God’s people. Because this pleased the Lord, God gave him wisdom beyond anyone else as well as wealth beyond anyone else. We should cry out daily for wisdom. Wisdom to navigate this world. Wisdom to lead our families. Wisdom to impact those around us for Jesus. God’s wisdom satisfies like nothing else. Nothing we desire can compare with it.

Notice also, that God’s wisdom was present in the Garden of Eden. Verse 18 says, “She is a tree of life”. Reading in Genesis 2:9 “The LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” When we embrace God’s wisdom, we embrace His presence, we embrace intimacy with the Almighty, we once again find ourselves walking in the garden in the cool of the day with the Creator of all.

You can’t separate God’s wisdom from God himself. So when we cry out for wisdom we are crying out for God. We take hold of God in a loving embrace when we internalize the wise sayings in His Word. We find God when we find His insights buried in the pages of scripture. Go ahead and ask for wisdom from the Almighty and hold onto all that He gives to you and you will be blessed!
