16 Wisdom will save you also from the adulterous woman, from the wayward woman with her seductive words, 17 who has left the partner of her youth and ignored the covenant she made before God. 18 Surely her house leads down to death and her paths to the spirits of the dead. 19 None who go to her return or attain the paths of life.

This is a stern warning to avoid sexual immorality. Don’t just see this as a narrow definition of having an affair with a married woman. Take a moment and lump all lust, pornography, sexual impurity, adultery, and similar actions into these verses. Don’t go there! Don’t be enticed by it! Don’t go down those paths because there is nothing but death on that road!

I’ve walked that path before and reaped the destruction in my life because of it. If you are on that path now, turn around! Run away! “Flee also youthful lusts” as it says in 2 Tim. 2:2. It’s never too late to change your path. God has forgiven you in Christ and He can restore what the enemy has taken. I can attest to God’s amazing redemption in my life.

It is essential to call out for God’s wisdom in order to avoid these temptations. He is able to provide a way of escape but you have to be willing to follow Him and the promptings of the Holy Spirit. The verses here in Proverbs 2 can be summarized as “Follow the Leader”. Our Leader will keep us on the paths of righteousness. He knows the way!

Yes , follow the leader! I have failed miserably earlier in life. Now I Surround myself with leaders of men who stand and fight against this lustful sin that broke them in the past. Accountability is huge! I have learned not even to let an image sit in my mind. At the gym I train myself to not even look a 2nd time and catch myself. Then I think of my 1st mission and what a gift I have at home. Who is there for me day in and day out. Lord help me to truly lay my life down for my wife. I have come up short. Thank you father!
