6 For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.
The Lord gives to us wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. James says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” Jam. 1:5. Go to God where you lack and He will make up the rest. If you feel insufficient, know that He is all sufficient!
I have to hold on to that when I read verse 7 because I am definitely not blameless. My walk through this life is full of mistakes and stumbling and sin. I try but fail. So how can I expect God to be my shield? I’m not perfect, but I’m His and that’s why He shields me.
If you are His child then you can be assured that His protection goes before you and He is your rear guard (Is. 52:12). He will be your fortress, your strong tower, and your defense (Ps. 144:2, Pr. 18:10).
What God is looking for is your heart. He knows that if your heart is His, your life will follow. Is your heart the Lord’s today? I know that even though I wander at times, and my heart desires other things from time to time, my heart is God’s. It feels good to say that. Can you say that today? If not, give it to Him and let Him fill you with a love so wonderful that nothing will ever come close.
