2 turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.
“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” Jer. 29:13. Isn’t that what this verse is saying? If you look hard enough, you will find God. If you search for the truth, God will be at the source of it all. If you refuse to settle for half-truths and hearsay, and really dig into what God has said in His Word, you will find the answers you are seeking and you will find God.
In a day and age when truth is hard to come by, you can count on the Bible as a sure foundation that never wavers. But you have to be willing to receive the answer that God has for you in the scriptures. You have to open the Bible with an open heart. “Accept my words” He says in verse 1.
Then we are called to hold onto His words and store them up inside of us. Sometimes God answers us right away. Sometimes His answers take a while to come to us. His Word, simmering inside of us, will help bring the truth to the forefront of our minds.
We have to read the Word with a listening ear and an open heart. We are to be willing to hear what He has to say and actively apply His Words to our hearts. Try it out, is what He is saying. “O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” Ps. 34:8.
Do you consider the Word of God a treasure worth searching after? There are so many priceless nuggets hidden in the scriptures. You could never find them all even in a lifetime of searching. If you approach the Word as if it is just a book or a nice story, then you will never find the fortune that it contains.
In the end, you will understand the fear of the Lord. The reverent awe of the all powerful creator of the universe. You will have drawn close to Him. So close that you can almost feel His breath as He speaks to you through the pages of the Bible. What a great adventure awaits you in His Word. Are you ready to take the journey?
