5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

Paul gives us a list here of things we ought naught do, but may I say, we all have a list of our own. Things that we used to do that we shouldn’t continue to do. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been a Christian. There are things that you used to do that have no place in your life today. Do you know your list? Take a second and think about what goes on that list for you. Now ask God if there is anything else that belongs on that list.

What would your life look like if you lived your life free from these behaviors? Would you have more energy, more joy, more peace? What difference would this make in the lives of those around you, your wife, your children, your work place, your church?

The Christian life is supposed to be full of the newness of life in Christ. It is supposed to be something completely different from how things were before Christ. We were dead, now we are alive!
