2 To God’s holy people in Colossae, the faithful brothers and sisters in Christ:

“To God’s holy people in <your city>”. Can you put yourself into this letter? Yes, Paul is writing this letter to Christians in Colossae but he is just as truly writing this letter to you and me. As I take in this statement many thoughts cross my mind. I am honored to be one of God’s holy people. At the same time I doubt that I fit in that group. I am challenged to be worthy of being one of His people while simultaneously feeling the peace that I’ve made it.

Who are these holy people of God? They are the faithful brothers and sisters in Christ. When you think of someone that fits in that category, who comes to mind? I think of the couple that’s always there Sunday morning, never missing service. I think of the single mom barely making ends meet that hasn’t given up on her faith. I’m reminded of the guy that works at the garage grinding out a living day in and day out. I include my soul group brothers that have stuck with me through good and bad times, not judging me, just loving me into a deeper relationship with Jesus.

Now, hear God speak those words over you. You are one of His holy people, faithful in Christ. Hear it. Receive it. Believe it! It’s true!

“To <your name>, a faithful brother in Christ.”
