17 Take the helmet of salvation

The helmet protects our head and specifically our mind. Every day our minds are assaulted by the devil and his lies. Every where we look, every where we turn, his influence can be seen and heard. Those who do not have the helmet of salvation on are easily duped into believing these lies. Look at the word amuze for a second. The root word is muse which means to think upon something. The prefix a means without. So amuse means without thinking. So when we sit back and let the television amuse us we are letting this world’s culture think for us.

Our safeguard against this is to keep our minds fixed on our salvation. When faced with lies, line them up against an eternal mindset. What eternal consequences will this line of reasoning bring me? What importance does this thought carry when weighed in the balance of eternity. Does this image reinforce my salvation in Christ or come against it?

There is a constant attack against our minds. This spiritual warfare never stops. There is a song by Third Day entitled “Your Words” that speaks to this.

“Your Words”

Let me hear Your words
Above all other voices
Above all the distractions in this world

Let me hear Your words
Above all of the voices
Above all the distractions in this world

For Your words bring life
And Your voice speaks promises
Lord, Your love offers more
Than anything else in this world

Your words give us life that’s never ending
Your words bring us love that never fails
Everything else will fade away
But what will remain
Are Your words

Let us speak Your words
More than ours, more than ever
Let us share Your love with all the world

The grass will wither and the flowers will fall
But the word of our God will last forever
The grass will wither and the flowers will fall
But the word of our God will last forever

So true how this world controlled by Satan and his evil forces wants us to have the mind of this world and be amused. In scripture we are to put on the armor and helmet. The mind of Christ and hold the thoughts, feelings and purposes of his heart. I will shut off my mind, but not to be numb, but to allow Christ my head lead me into all things that are good, pure, holy and just. Thanks Doug for that revelation through his word. I will take being amused in a different light now
    Love you brother!
